About The Doran TionólThe Doran Piping Tionól is held every year at the Bellbridge Hotel in Spanish Point Co Clare, the stomping ground of the legendary piper, Johnny Doran when he visited Clare during his travels around Ireland. The weekend Tionól consists of lectures, classes, reed making, concert, and numerous all day and night sessions by some of the cream of uilleann pipers. The main aim of Tionól is to celebrate the wonderful legacy of the Doran brothers-Johnny and Felix. The centrepiece of the event is the participation by the Doran extended family, now settled in England, but who returneach year to play their music and share their memories of the golden age of piping and Travelling music. Family members who are regulars each year include Johnny Purcell, Johnny Doran’s grandson, John Rooney and his son Larry and Mickey Doran Senior and Junior, Felix’s son and grandson respectively. Past guests have included Finbar Furey, Paddy Keenan, Neilidh Mulligan, Brian Mac Aodha, Marco Pollier and Martin Nolan. The 2012 guest is Seamus O’Rochain son of the legendary Muiris O’Rochain who passed to his reward in October 2011. |
